Supporting the locals
My friend Rob has been making some pretty good stuff over the past few months. This is one of my favorites. I thought it would be a good time to promote some other local artists, given my posting drought.

NY Short No. 3 (perhaps the last of the NY shorts, depending on how busy I will be)
I tried to re-create the perfect rainstorm. Relax for the next six minutes and enjoy.
NY short no. 2, and my first attempt at a remix: bon iver, “skinny love”
THE NY SHORTS:
For the last month or so I have been mulling around my apartment missing all of my music gear, and hating my recent recording drought. The only instrument I brought with me was my grandpa’s harmonica, which can only keep me entertained for so long.
This morning, however, I was reacquainted with my old friend: the on-screen typing keyboard. I spent about an hour or so messing around with loops and instruments in logic and came up with something pretty entertaining, which I finished up tonight with a little help from my built in mic. I included a little bit of Bill Withers as well.
Hopefully this marks the beginning of an interesting series. Lesson learned - be creative with what you have.
I’m going to be playing in battle of the bands at the velour tonight with my talented friend Jennifer Blosil. I’ll be playing the accordion (an actual one, not like my little concertina) for one song, which I actually just picked up about two days ago, ha, so it should be a good time.
Here’s a little something that I made up in about 30 min. one night for my accounting class. It was a very quick mix. It was designed to sound like an intro to a children’s tv program, kind of reminiscent of the children’s album that I made. Speaking of, did I ever post any of that on here? Can’t remember…maybe I’ll get around to it sometime…
I recently caught a break and took some time to check on my tumblr, and I have to admit that I was a little depressed to see that my last post was created 2 MONTHS ago. At this rate I have probably lost the small group of followers that I had, but there is still the hope alive that some people will see an update on their reader account or something and and check out the blog that has just been sitting gathering dust on the shelf for the last couple of months.
I recently accepted an internship in NYC for this winter with a large accounting firm, so I will be moving there with my wife. Who knows, maybe I could get something started with music out there, there are certainly a lot of opportunities.
I’ve been pretty overloaded working about 20-30 hours a week, flying out to NY a couple times, and maintaining my school schedule, but I’ve had some ideas come to me as of late for songs, so hopefully I can get the studio working again a little bit before the end of the semester.
Stay tuned for updates, however intermittent they may be…
my apologies for the lack of posts. things really have been going on in my life, the documentation is just a little behind. here is a brief synopsis:
i got engaged
i went to ohio
i went to peru
i moved into a little house
school started and i am beginning my master’s program
i’m a little busier than i have been before, but i hope to get somewhat of a routine down here shortly.
I had checked out this book titled “Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies,” hoping that it would give me some insight into how to master my songs, but after about a week of rampantly searching through the pages it proved to be of little help. Then, I went on youtube and watched a 10 min. video on mastering songs in logic, made by some random dude, and it helped me 1,000 times more than that book.
Thank you youtube (and the random dude).
I used my newfound knowledge to do a little mastering on this song. It was previously titled “they say it’s april.”
I’ve been redoing some of the old tracks, adding a little bit more flare. This track was formerly named “kiss the same,” but I changed the name to “in the goin’.” Still no idea how to master my tracks just yet, so you will have to keep turning up your volume for the time being.
